Yea this is pretty dumb.... Google basically wants you to make stuff for free or make it a pay app in which we all know no one hardly buys anything they all want it for free.... None of the other ad types are going to be good for "livewallpapers" notification ads are the best. Start app, leadbolt, etc may just go out of business if there is not enough apps out there that can actually use the "in-app only ads".

This is just Googles way of saying if the user is not in your app they must not see anything to do with your app. They even updated the policy restricting internet access. So every ad uses the internet connection of the phone whether it be wifi or cell data. So from reading the policy you would only be able to show an ad when a user is on wifi and will not incur any further data charges from their carriers thus limiting your revenue even further.

    Its a mess lol.

http://play.google.com/about/developer-content-policy.html all the way at bottom for ad policy and in the middle some were for network usage usage

You are not likely to receive a response from Google.

In other news, email from StartApp:

Don't worry, guys. Someone will think of something new at some point. This industry revolves around innovation. Be patient and keep making more wallpapers. There will always be options to monetize, because as (un)fortunate as it may seem, advertising is an important cog that our world runs on. If you have people that you can reach out to with ads, then you are in the driving seat :)

Notifications are the best for our wallpapers.. Enter, exit ads into the settings menu will have to suffice until we figure something out. I can see were Google is going its been policy on Apple that you mush not display ads in notification area, Google is becoming to much Apple like lol.

Stick our apps icon in the app drawer, and show an ad when user clicks it to open it or go to the settings menu. Its crazy though. I have a real job outside of this but I feel for the companies who survive on what they make in advertising space. This really will only majorly impact live wallpaper developers like us as those who develop regular apps have plenty of places to throw ads in.

Like pandora after every 5 or so songs you are forced to watch an add ( violates Google play's ad policy) before you can continue to listen to music, or your shown an ad that you can click an X on. We just have to find more places to throw the ads in now since the notification area is out of question.

Agree with you Eraste, the salvation for now maybe are just Entry&Exit ads..did anyone implemented this ad unit so far? Leadbolt procedure looks easy whith just three steps, first step is adding premissions on manifest,it is easy, but the two other steps are bit harder if you dont know where to put codes...can anyone share something, lets create a new thread about entry exit ads and share experiences...Vas knows best

I'm going to send and e-mail to Google complaining about this as well, we should all do it, maybe Google will step back on this, i don't think we would be the only ones in the world sending emails to Google about this issue.

@NewKid I already did, I sent an email 2 days ago.....

I got an email from Leadbolt saying that they are presently hard at work updating their platform and SDK to provide a new SDK version that fully complies with these new Google Play Developer Program Policies.
Leadbolt also says that for the moment we can use just display ads

I had been receiving calls from Admob team for past 1 month and they were forcing me to use Admob for my apps but I cleared them every time that I cannot use banner ads in wallpapers and I also asked if they have solution for notification ads in Admob so I can use it for my wallpapers, they said notification ads will be introduced soon in Admob and now suddenly they simply banned the notification ads :(

Also, there is a pargraph no. 3 in Google's ad policy where it is written

    Ad Walls and Interstitial Ads
    3. Interstitial ads may only be displayed inside of the app they came with. Forcing the user to click on ads or submit personal information for advertising purposes in order to fully use an app is prohibited. A prominent and accessible target must be made available to users in any interstitial ad so they may dismiss the ad without penalty or inadvertent click-through.

Is Entry&Exit ad comply with this policy?

I request to LWC developers please make a tutorial for Leadbolt or Admob banner ads asap so I can update my apps, because something is better than nothing :(

I just got the email from Leadbolt about this.... Its a shame. This is the end of all of us. Leadbolt, Airpush, Start-app (especially start -app) are all going to go under. I really hope that Google reverses its decision on notification ads, otherwise it's going to lose a lot of devs, and not just wallpaper devs, lots of other apps use notifications and icons.

As for the other loop holes like entry/exit ads or banner ads, I say it doesn't matter. They will only be seen when a user actually opens the live wallpaper. That happens about once: the user opens it, sets it, and forgets it....

boys pondered: google says that advertising should be visible only to 'internal application, right? then according to a logical reasoning a Live Wallpaper is an application always "open", and so I think the live wallpaper are the only applications that would be allowed to use notification ads ... what do you think?

That would be a good question for Play support. However, Google said that notifications can only be used for app related things, such as eBay telling you a sale is ending or amazon confirming a download. That doesn't leave much room for advertising.
