There were a record 98 Covid-19 fatalities and 9,186 new cases reported over the past 24 hours, the Public Health Ministry said on Thursday morning. There ere 9,107 cases in the general population and 79 among prison inmates. Over the past 24 hours, 5,543 Covid-19 patients were diagnosed recovered and were discharged from hospitals. Fifty-two of them had hypertension but nine had no chronic illness. Thirty-nine either lived in or visited outbreak areas while 20 caught the virus from other family members. The 9,186 new cases comprised 9,085 local infections in all 77 provinces and 22 imported cases. Of the local infections, 7,481 were confirmed at hospitals and 1,604 found were detected from mass testing. Bangkok recorded the most, 2,224, followed by 846 in Samut Prakan, 640 in Samut Sakhon, 523 in Chon Buri, 355 in Nonthaburi, 291 in Nakhon Pathom, 269 in Pattani, 233 in Pathum Thani, 188 in Chachoengsao and 181 in Songkhla. Chon Buri had three new clusters – 87 cases at a furniture factory in Ban Bung district, 12 at a canned food factory in Bo Thong and 12 at a marble factory in Sattahip. Nonthaburi had a new cluster of 30 cases at a garment factory in Pak Kret district. Chachoengsao had a new cluster of 10 cases, also at a garment factory, in Bang Khla district. Prachuap Khiri Khan had a new cluster of 23 infected fishing crewmembers in Pran Buri district. Kanchanaburi had a new cluster of 16 cases at a tobacco factory in Tha Muang district. The 22 imported cases were from Bahrain (1), the United States (3), France (1), the United Kingdom (1), South Korea (1), Albania (2), South Africa (1), Myanmar (9 including 7 illegal Thai returnees) and Cambodia (3). On Wednesday, 103,056 people received treatment for Covid-19 at hospitals - 58,582 at conventional hospitals and 44,474 at field hospitals. Of these, 3,276 were seriously ill and 839 dependent on ventilators. Globally, Covid-19 cases rose by 554,510 in 24 hours to 189.16 million. The worldwide death toll went up by 8,715 to 4.07 million. The US had the most cases at 34.85 million, up 35,447, at the most deaths at 623,838, up 374.
